Slip Disc,medically termed as the spine disc herniation, Slip disc may result into severe pain in the affected region of the vertebral column. Slip disc is primarily caused due to the tear in the fibrous regions of the disc in the spinal cord nucleus pulpous that is the soft portion of a disc may bulge out. Spinal disc causes the release of the various inflammatory chemicals that may result into extreme pain. It has been found in the latest research activities carried on slip disc that pain is primarily caused due to the release of some specific inflammatory chemical mediators.

Due to the case of herniated disc or even due to the annular tear, a special type of inflammatory molecule termed as tumor necrosis factor alpha or TNF is released. It has also been found that TNF not only causes severe pain it also takes a substantial role in disc degeneration.

The patients suffering from spondylolisthesis usually suffer from damage of disc that lies between two vertebrae. Disc herniation or slip disc can take place in any of the discs of the spinal cord. However most number of cases have been registered where the patients have suffered from slip disc in the lumber region as well as in the cervical region.. Lumber disc herniation can lead to sever back pain in the lower region of the back. The lower back pain caused due to slip disc is usually referred as lumbago.. Lumber disc herniation can also cause leg pain that is termed as sciatica.

It has been found that slip disc in the lumber region occurs a number of times more than that in the cervical region. Majority of the cases of slip disc occurs to the persons aged between 30s to 40s. The nucleus pulpous that is more like gelatin like material can come out of the discs. The risk of this disease gets reduced with age as the nucleus pulpous gradually dries out. Cervical disc herniation can cause severe pain in the region around the neck. It can also affect the shoulders and even the arms. Slip disc in the cervical region mostly occurs in the midway of the 6th and 7th cervical vertebrae.
